At Cultivate Intellect, we care about the development of each student's intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and creative potential. We believe that teaching students to reflect critically on how we come to know and understand information is essential, which means incorporating their ideas and feedback into the process. We accomplish our vision by using versatile teaching/learning techniques, driving innovation, taking a multifaceted approach, providing a sense of community, promoting empathy, building confidence, and instilling resilience.
Our teaching methods are versatile and adaptable to each individual student regardless of where they are in their education. We use flexible pacing to ensure the student understands the concepts they are learning without feeling rushed. We also use creative approaches that make the learning experience memorable and fit each student’s needs.
Innovation at Cultivate Intellect means that we are constantly reworking our approaches to learning by incorporating the newest, proven learning techniques being discussed in journals of psychology and neuroscience. We inspire our students to take the same approach to innovation in whatever field their interests lie.
As all aspects of life are integrated, we believe understanding the connections between topics is essential to understanding any topic and applying it in a real-world context. We ensure our students learn why a topic is essential to understand, how it relates to other topics, how it relates to everyday life, and how they might be able to create a career from the skills they learn.
The aspect of community is vital in the learning process because it creates a safe space for and facilitates exchanging of knowledge and skills. In our community, teachers are seen less as a person of authority who leads and controls but rather as a mentor and facilitator. Students, parents, teachers, and staff are encouraged to learn from one another despite perceived positions of authority.
We believe putting forth an effort to understand others and their feelings is an essential component of education. An empathic learning environment strengthens community, cultivates leaders, promotes deeper connection and discussion, and ensures a positive learning culture.
Once a student has the skills necessary to be successful, they often need an additional push to recognize their abilities and gain enough confidence to implement them. When a healthy level of confidence is achieved along with a student’s developed skills, the student’s motivation increases, and success becomes more attainable.
Resilience is about being able to persevere through setbacks, take on challenges, and risk making mistakes to reach a goal. Teaching resilience has a positive influence on a student’s academic performance as well as their social and emotional wellbeing.
